Existing facilities at this Pre-K through 8th grade school in the oceanfront town of Monmouth Beach required that cafeteria tables and chairs be set up and broken down every day to allow for physical education classes to be held in the same multi-purpose room before and after the lunch periods.
School Administrators and the Board of Education asked that an All Purpose room be designed with the same lunch seating capacity as the multi-purpose room and that the space also incorporate features such as the ability to host outside groups during off hours without allowing the public access to the rest of the school building.
Topping off the design challenges for this 3,300 sf addition was the need to tie into several different finished floor elevations while maintaining full handicapped accessibility, specifying hurricane proof windows and doors and designing the addition’s walls, doors and windows to be flood resistant.
